Battlestar Galactica's Raptors were the equivalent of helicopters and were used for reconnaissance and transport missions. They were capable of faster-than-light travel and surface exploration. The ship was designed and built as a life-size model by Ken Rabehl of the BSG art department, the robust model was big enough to accommodate five people and use on location. The Heavy Raptor is a compact, FTL-equipped craft designed for both atmospheric and space-based operations. This version is more heavily armed than the standard version with twin missile launchers mounted just behind the the cockpit.
