Starfleet only made formal contact with the Ferengi in the 24th century, but in the ENTERPRISE episode 'Acquisition' we learn that a small group of Ferengi encountered Archer's crew, when their ship docked with the NX-01. This 'early' Ferengi ship was designed by John Eaves, who set out to create a condensed version of the Ferengi Marauder. The model measures just over 4"  (10.5 cm) long.
