in TNG's first season, Gene Roddenberry suggested that concept artist Andrew Probert take a radically different approach to the design of the Tarrelian ship: instead of giving the ship conventional engines, he put the power source in a ring at the rear of the ship. The effect was completed using video editing to create a glowing sphere of energy. The model is just over 5" (13 cm) long.
