The Ferengi Marauder was the first major alien ship we saw on TNG. At the time the Ferengi were seen as a major threat so they were given a large, threatening ship. It was designed by Andrew Probert who was inspired by the shape of a horseshoe crab. The large rear was designed to accommodate cargo and the neck extended when the Ferengi wanted to threaten their opponents. It went on to make several reappearances on TNG and DS9. The model is just under 4" (10 cm) long.
